The Stakes and Challenges

Example: the Société Générale’s Hackathon
on the Internet of Things
In October 2014, the Société Générale gathered together around
one hundred developers, designers, start-ups and students to come
up with applications of the Internet of Things to multi-channel
banking/client relations. After having presented their ideas and
formed their multidisciplinary teams, the participants had 48 hours
to create their application.
This initiative is part of the co-creation approach initiated by
the retail bank Société Générale several years ago, most notably
through the platform “SGetvous”.
The bank also organised, in May 2014, a Hackathon to “reinvent the
IT department of tomorrow”. The objective was to gather together
expertise to create an application that will improve the processes
and the day-to-day life of developers working in IT departments:
creating new tools to help developers collaborate from afar, to
optimise the exchange of information, to favour training amongst
developers.
