Finally, agility requires a maturity from both IS and other business
functions. If one of the two parties is not sufficiently mature, then
the use of such methods is risky, to the point of destroying value. This
cultural change affects as much marketing and other sectors (who
have to conform) as IT (who must raise awareness of the new pace and
challenges).
Mastering fundamental techniques
Digital transformation scenarios, produced in close collaboration
with other business functions, all have a common non-negotiable
background: security. When marketing or other functions want to go
faster and use an external solution, called shadow IT or more positively,
in-business computing, the IT department needs to be present to
oversee some basic principles, in particular the architecture and the
security of information systems. The CIO acts as a watchman, and as a
business orchestrator, in the best sense of the term.
Security is not, of course, an emerging issue for the IS function,
nevertheless, it is of growing importance with regard to digital risks.
The ways of approaching and dealing with it have changed. The focus
is no longer on perimeter security, nor is security seen as a constraint.
Instead security is considered a “
business enabler
”.
